One of the things I learned in my wine education course (and, hey, I’m WSET-2 certified right now – woot!) Was learning the basics of how to combine wine and food.
But, what about combining wine with mind?
As far as I know, I usually choose a bottle of wine (or another beverage) based on what I eat, and how I feel.
Here are some interesting examples …
- Sun and smile? Rosè time.
- Sound after work? Give me foam.
- Cold and rainy night? A big solid red to warm with.
- A simple lunch for the weekend? Mocktail, please.
I eat and work consciously and mentally (asking myself and my body what I want and need), and I find that the same way of choosing wine and other beverages brings a lot of joy to my life.
And, I have the choice of happiness when I can!
If you want to add a little pleasure to your life, too, read my latest drink and thought-provoking pairings!
Fun: Feeling good, but it’s a cold night of the week and you don’t want to leave home.
Pairing: Los Vascos Cromas Gran Reserve Carménère 2019
Why do we do this: Carmenere is a large, hardy grape that just warms your life. This bottle also looks beautiful. There are blackberries, plum and black cherry, as well as the words of white pepper and herbaceous notes. Tannins are soft and smooth, with a nice acidity that they can control everything. Which, of course, is not surprising because Los Vascos wines are produced with the same care as Bordeaux Grand Crus and are derived from the Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite). Yes, beautiful – but about $ 20 a bottle (revealed: we are affiliated with Vivino), it will not break the bank.
Fun: When your friends come and you want to let them know something new.
Pairing: Owl Brew Spiced Tea & Cranberry Boozy Tea
Why do we do this: This delicious and tasty drink is (in our opinion) not only sweeter than your regular seltzer, but also made with good ingredients such as freshly brewed tea garnished with real fruits and botanicals. In spices such as Spiced Tea & Cranberry, Darjeeling Tea & Hibiscus Flowers, and White Tea, Raspberry, & Lemon, it is not boring. We are also glad that Owl Brew is gluten free, vegan, and feminine!
Fun: You want revenge, but you are not ready to go public.
Pairing: A bottle from the Humanity Wine Co wine club
Why do we do this: We were recently shipped from Humanity Wine Co., and it was not only a great way to deliver goodies, but it was also a fun way to try new wine. You can see our experiences and ideas in our Insta article here, but they sent us four delicious bottles from family wine shops and vineyards for sale. And, the best part? The company is donating 50 percent of its total revenue to philanthropy, so with any fun drink, in return for these amazing products.
Oh, and if you are looking for a fun game to play when to taste some of the drinks, try SipperParty! No knowledge of wine has been required in the past and it allows anyone interested in playing and playing through the app, in addition to the above. Take the leaves and try!
Fun: If you want a little alcohol, but don’t want to feel like you just drank a little.
Pairing: Can (or two) of Bravus.
What’s good about Bravus is that it’s not another beer – really and real alcohol, and at least .5 percent ABV. In the process of brewing, this tastes like modern beer, but it is vegetarian, dairy-free, very low-fat, sweet, and gluten-free. What we loved was IPA!
Mood: You want to drink something good … but you’re about to.
Reconciliation: Clean and cool NEFT
Made with only two ingredients (old, non-GMO seeds grown in southern Saxony and spring water from the Alps of Austria for those interested), NEFT and drink the most vodka beer you can go anywhere with – and it’s cool! Packed in an easy-to-break barrel that closely resembles a small oil barrel, it cools for hours.
Mood: You want something fun to eat, but you still stay.
Connection: Then. Many. Choices!
Fine and delicious non-alcoholic beverages were scarce, but in the last few years a very interesting market has cured this! We’ve recently had a mix of a few drinks that have hit our office that are fun, delicious, and very challenging. What we love!
Curious Elixirs are non-alcoholic cocktails that are paired with adaptogens and complex flavors without too much sweetness (hooray!). Made by the world’s top beer lovers, herbalists and nutritionists with the right ingredients, each combination follows its purpose, from pick-me-up to relaxation. In fun desserts like Blood Orange Spritz Holy Basil + Gingseng and Juniper Cucumber Collins Lemon + Ashwagandha + Angelica, you will not feel like you are missing out on a party.
For those who drink wine, Oddbird non-alcoholic wine is like nothing we have ever had (and in a good way). With a view to producing world-class, traditional-made wines, the wines are sourced from the best vineyards in France and Italy and mature up to 12 months before the distillation of alcohol using a special method that preserves flavor. We found Oddbird Low Intervention Organic White No. 1 – a natural white wine made from Vespaiola and Garganega grape varieties – slightly sweetened with pear, shiny apple honey, honey, and candied lemons, by Oddbird Low. Intervention Organic Red No. 1 – which is a natural red wine of Merlot and Pinot Noir – has a spice of apple cinnamon, cranberry, and immature wild berries. Up to the fun NA wines we have had so far!
For those who are looking for something stylish and delicious, you can not go wrong with Mingle Mocktails. Made from natural and non-natural ingredients, you can find party flavors such as Cranberry Cosmo, Blackberry Hibiscus Bellini, Cucumber Melon Mojito, Moscow Mule and Blood Orange Elderflower Mimosa. Offered in fixed 750-ml bottles or 12-ounce cans, there are sizes of any size.
Some good choices, okay? Now what we need to know is this: How do you feel? And what will you combine it with? -Jenn
